The Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has demanded a ministry like Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for cow milk production by Fulani herders.
The group’s president, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, who made this proposal in a recent interview, insisted that the creation of a separate ministry for Fulani herders, just like Niger Delta was necessary because herders contribute to the national economy as much as the Niger Delta ministry.
Emphasising why Fulani herders deserve a distinct ministry for economic development, the leader of the socio-cultural group said cow milk is costlier than petrol. He added that with Fulani Herders having a ministry of their own, they could handle some issues facing them.
He said: “Remember, there is the Ministry of Niger Delta because there is oil there. At the same time, the Fulani have millions of cows in the country. Milk from cows is costlier than petrol. A litre of petrol is about N250, but a litre of cow milk is N1, 500. You see the difference is clear.
“We are contributing to the economy as much as the Niger Delta, which has a separate ministry. Then, why can’t a separate ministry be created for us? With a separate ministry, if the herders have a problem they would go there and it would be resolved. I’m not talking of the Ministry of Agriculture, which is only for the farmers”, he further stated.
The herders have problems in this country and with this ministry, the problems would be handled.
